About Wireless/Networking: Most Connected People and Places
The latest annual survey from ITU has been released including a ranking of the world's countries by their progress in information and communication technology development. While Americans shouldn't be too surprised that the U.S. ranks 14th, Iceland's high ranking is a bit of an eye opener.
The specific steps required to connect a computer to the Internet depend on the type of Internet access involved. Most Internet access methods used in homes involve a small hardware unit called a modem. So-called hotspot connections can also be set up without too much effort.
Despite advances in wireless technologies, many computer networks in the 21st century continue utilizing cables as a physical medium for devices to transfer data. Several different types of network cables exist, each designed for specific purposes.
