Microsoft to add real-time translation to Windows' Skype desktop app by summer's end
Microsoft today said that it would add its real-time translation technology to the primary Windows desktop app, giving users of Windows 7 and older editions the chance to test the service. "We are targeting the end of summer 2015 for the roll-out to begin," said Yasmin Khan of Skype's marketing team in a Monday blog post. New features go live in Microsoft's Office 2016
Microsoft is still working on the next major update to its work productivity suite Office 2016, but it has rolled out new features to the more than 1 million users currently testing out the suite. Microsoft said it would make updates to the Office suite over time back when it first rolled out the public preview a few months ago, similar to how it rolled out new features to Windows 10 over the course of its beta cycle. The following features were first announced at Ignite last month and are now live in Office 2016:Real Time Presence in Word Real Time Presence is a precursor of sorts for Real Time Typing, a Google Docs-style feature that will let desktop users of Office view what their co-workers are doing to a document in real time.
