Hands on with Sprint's skinny bezel Aquos Crystal phone
The most striking thing about Sprint’s upcoming Aquos Crystal smartphone only becomes clear when you turn its camera on.That’s when its bezel, the frame surrounding the display, becomes almost invisible.Call it a trick of the eye, but when the image from the 8-megapixel camera sensor matches the background almost perfectly, it’s very hard to notice those few millimeters surrounding the display. The edge-to-edge “borderless” display is the phone’s biggest selling point. At times it seems like you’re holding an electronic window instead of a slim phone. With the camera off, however, the screen real estate doesn’t look all that different from a garden-variety Android smartphone. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More

Week in Tech: New phones, high-tech helmets and wet CEOs
(Editor's Note: The following is the transcript for the video above)Nick Barber: Thanks for joining us here on World Tech Update, I'm Nick Barber.Microsoft's Devices Group has unveiled the Nokia 130, a mobile phone that costs just $25, but there's a drawback. It lacks an Internet connection and apps. With the 130, Microsoft is going after people in emerging markets who are buying their first phone. It's also a good fit for people who want a backup to complement their existing smartphones.Samsung launched its new Galaxy Alpha with a metal frame, in a bid to boost sales after the plastic design of its smartphones has been blamed for the company's recent struggles. The phone runs Android 4.4 and is powered by Exynos process with four ARM cores. iPhone 6 rumor rollup for the week ending Aug. 15
The iOSphere is more and more certain it knows the details of the Apple iPhone 6, even though there is less and less to go on.Some were reassured that “next generation” iPhone models have been approved for sale in, of all places, Thailand. Others think, or hope, that the long-rumored wearable wrist thing, sometimes called iWatch, will be announced at the same September 9 event as the iPhone 6. Still others entertained the idea of a Lightning connector cable with a reversible USB connector…or something. And sapphire remains the crown jewel of rumors: gleaming, elusive, and, for many, deeply confusing. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More

What Verizon exclusive? HTC's Windows Phone-powered One M8 is coming to AT&T, too
On the surface, the announcement of a Windows Phone-powered version of HTC's drool-worthy One M8 smartphone was nothing but a good thing. One of the most appealing smartphones in the land embraced Microsoft's mobile operating system! But the news was tainted by a foul note. No, haters, not the inclusion of Windows Phone itself (though it could certainly use some help these days). I'm talking about the phone’s reported Verizon exclusivity. Nobody—nobody—ever changes carriers to simply snag a particular phone, so limiting the Windows Phone One M8 to Verizon reeked of giving the phone the kiss of death before it even hit the streets. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More
