Nortel plan targets data center, 09/10/07: Nortel plans to push deeper into the data center next year with products that stress virtualization and reliability, and dovetail with the company’s VoIP and unified communications offerings.

Xsigo launches I/O virtualization product, 09/10/07: Start-up Xsigo Systems today launched an I/O virtualization appliance that reduces server connectivity bottlenecks by replacing cabling and network and storage interfaces with virtual resources.

AMD to give Barcelona processor a Hollywood-style premiere, 09/10/07: Advanced Micro Devices plans to launch its Quad-Core Opteron processor Monday with a movie premiere-like event it hopes will recapture some of the buzz it had, but lost, beating Intel to market with the first dual-core processor in 2003.

AMD seeks server rebound with Barcelona, 09/07/07: Advanced Micro Devices hopes to seize a larger share of the server chip market from its rival Intel on Monday when it launches the Barcelona quad-core processor.

Battle of the free server virtualization tools, 09/06/07: With the recent initial public offering of VMware being greeted with a resounding cheer from investors, it's clear that virtualization is increasingly important to businesses. Corporations are working virtualization strategies into their budgets and plans, and suppliers have responded with a number of products. In fact, two major players in the industry, VMware and Microsoft, are offering their previously for-pay server products for free, presumably to foster demand for their more-expensive and more-capable enterprise systems.

Microsoft releases new virtual machine-management software, 09/06/07: Microsoft Thursday released its first software designed specifically to manage virtual machines on a network, and tweaked licensing for its system-management products to take into account virtualization.

Virtualization company XenSource unveils OEM edition, 09/05/07: Virtualization vendor XenSource is making an OEM edition of its open source Xen virtualization hypervisor available for server manufacturers.

SWsoft releases beta of Virtuozzo 4.0, 09/10/07: SWsoft is unveiling a beta of the next generation of Virtuozzo 4.0, its OS-level server virtualization software.
