Seagate’s EVault data vault service extends to Microsoft SharePoint

By Deni Connor

The storage service provider market is heating up again as EVault introduces software this week that extends its coverage to Microsoft SharePoint environments and adds data de-duplication to its platform.

EVault’s InfoStage 6 Unified Recovery platform is now available for physical, as well as virtualized VMware environments. The new version of EVault includes hot backups and document-level recovery of Microsoft SharePoint servers and new options for delivery of the software as a software-as-a-service offering, licensed software or as managed services platform. It also supports Exchange 2007 and Vista environments.

It also uses EVault’s DeltaPro technology to compress and encrypt data, new or changed, in order to increase performance over the WAN. DeltaPro technology automatically recreates a delta index file of data changes to ensure backups and recoveries are uninterrupted – the delta file index is automatically regenerated when it is missing or corrupt. It also eliminates redundant blocks of data in backup jobs, thus increasing performance and saving on storage costs by eliminating the duplicate data.

Further, EVault InfoStage UltraRecovery allows replication from the data in the primary backup vault to an alternate disaster recovery location. It allows remote offices to create a local backup vault, from which they can recover data faster. This local backup vault can also be replicated to a centralized disaster recovery site.

The EVault InfoStage 6 software is available now for software as a service, licensed software and managed services customers.
