Streamcore emphasizes WAN visibility and reporting, 11/01/07: WAN application performance is one of those IT areas that are of interest not only to IT staff but also to business managers, since application delivery is so closely tied to employee productivity. But the metrics IT managers are interested in monitoring may differ -- not surprisingly -- from those business managers want to track.

MPLS vs. WAN optimization, Part 1, 11/01/07: Life in IT is difficult enough given all the demands and limited resources. Working in IT, however, is a little bit easier when there is at least somewhat of a clear direction in the market relative to how a given technology is likely to evolve. Conversely, working in IT is notably more difficult when there is a divergence of opinion relative to technology evolution. Using that as a yardstick, we believe that the chaos associated with WAN optimization will make working in IT difficult for the foreseeable future.

MPLS vs. WAN optimization, Part 2, 11/06/07: Jim moderated a panel on branch office optimization where the panelists sometimes agreed but often sharply disagreed with each other on some key issues. The last newsletter discussed the two areas where the panelists were generally in agreement. This newsletter will discuss some of the many areas where they were not in agreement.

Ethernet vs. MPLS in the WAN, 10/26/07: Ethernet expands into the WAN and now provides an alternative to wide-area pureplay MPLS. Which technology will win out is anyone’s guess, analysts say.

VON panel to telcos: Sell more ads, 11/01/07: Although telcos are used to being the only major players for voice services, they’ll soon have to change their business models to compete with such upstarts as Skype and Google, said panelists at this week’s VON conference in Boston.

Cisco Subnet blogger Wendell Odom explains NAT ICND2 style: He writes: " A few weeks ago, I posted some NAT comments about an ICND1/CCENT level NAT question, and this week I'll try and use a question that's more attuned to the ICND2 exam."
