Backspin: Net neutrality: how to make it happen

Early last month the U.S. Department of Justice, for reasons only known to itself and its puppet masters, got involved in the net neutrality debate. The DOJ filed a brief with the Federal Communications Commission that argued that the FCC “should resist calls to impose net neutrality regulations on broadband providers because such rules could hurt the Internet.” Read full story.

That's the title of an essay written by Bruce Schneier, a cryptographer and an expert on computer security. The essay isn't exactly light reading, but it doesn't require a math degree to understand the answer to the question is probably yes. Read the essay here.

RE: A little more on DPCs and some PPC apps
I'd love to hear your most recent findings on what is causing your DPC problems. My organization is seeing high DPC usage on our print server and it's definitely causing a degradation in performance. Overall CPU usage suddenly spikes up to 80 - 90% with DPCs taking up about 40 - 50% of that chunk.

RE: Wiretapping, whistleblowing and IT ethics
Mark,
Thanks for taking the time to recognize Mr Kline's heroic and patriotic efforts. I think that your article is timely and should envoke a sense of self responsiblity from all in the IT business. Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should. I live and work in South Carolina and the legeslature passed a law a few years back to require all IT professionals to report any evidence of illegal activites discovered in computer files. The law was written to prevent internet child pornography. I believe that there are similar laws passed in other states, maybe IT should use these laws to restore legal ethics to our lives.
