AMD says Barcelona server chip will be on time; Intel ships 1 million quad-core CPUs

AMD says Barcelona server chip will be on time, 06/29/07: Advanced Micro Devices said Friday it would begin shipping its "Barcelona" quad-core Opteron processor in August, rebutting industry rumors that the chip faced manufacturing problems that could delay it until October.

Intel ships 1 million quad-core CPUs, 06/29/07: Intel has shipped more than 1 million quad-core Xeon 5300 microprocessors since introducing them last November, meeting a goal announced by company executives earlier this year.

“Centro” is a new 64-bit only bundle that is an upscale version of Windows SBS (75-300 seats), reports John Obeto. He tested it on three systems. Read his blog.
