CAPTCHA Cracked
It looks like the spammers and scammers have found a way around CAPTCHA, that system used to authenticate a human by requesting them to enter text that they see in an image. Both Microsoft and Yahoo! are reporting that thousands of email accounts have been created and then used to send out spam, even though each uses CAPTCHA to create an account. If this is indeed true, it may spell the end of the reCAPTCHA project.

It's July in Texas, and the crickets are getting started. Some years they are incredibly thick -- I recall one year, back in the late 70s, when they had to close the Interstate -- crickets so thick and slippery you couldn't drive safely; drifts of crickets over a foot deep along the roadside. Ah, the distinct aroma of dead crickets in the morning; shopkeepers shoveling piles of crickets from the front of their stores...
