Apple confirms September 9 event: iPhone 6 and new wearable device on the horizon
Well it's official, folks. As previously rumored, Apple today sent out invitations to select outlets for a special media event slated to take place on September 9. Word of the official announcement was first relayed by The Loop, which posted the photo of the invite below. With the tagline "Wish we could say more", the invitation certainly leaves a whole lot to the imagination. The event itself will kick off at 10 AM Pacific Time at the Flrint Center for the Performing Arts in Cupertino. Notably, most Apple events take place at either Apple's Cupertino campus or at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. It's widely believed that Apple will use the occasion to announce two brand new iPhone models, and according to a post yesterday from Re/Code, the event will also introduce the world to Apple's long rumored wearable device, a product some have prematurely referred to as the "iWatch."To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More

For Apple, now is the time to put up or shut up
In less than a week, on September 9, Apple will hold one of its most highly anticipated product launch events ever. The company is expected to announce not one but two new iPhones, and possibly the long-rumored iWatch.Apart from the hype, which seems as intense as any in the company’s heavily promoted history, these launches will make or break Apple’s position as the most dominant, most innovative, and most profitable company in the mobile space. Ironically, however, the launches pose two completely different challenges for Apple.Promises, promisesApple CEO Tim Cook has been promising that Apple's product pipeline is “chock full” of “incredible stuff” since at least January. January 2013, that is. He’s claimed that Apple is in a “unique position” to enter and dominate new categories—widely assumed to mean TV and wearables. He’s said that the product pipeline “has never been stronger.” Apple exec Steve Cue said Apple has "the best product pipeline I've seen in 25 years." Wow, right? To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More

Apple developing 12.9-inch iPad model for 2015 launch - Report
While much of the news surrounding Apple over the next few weeks will understandably focus on new iPhones and the rumored Apple iWatch, there are reportedly some interesting changes afoot for Apple's iPad lineup.According to a report last week from Bloomberg, Apple is preparing to release a new larger screened 12.9-inch iPad in early 2015.The new iPad will have a screen measuring 12.9 inches diagonally, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the details aren’t public. Apple currently produces iPads with 9.7-inch and 7.9-inch displays. The Cupertino, California-based company has been working with suppliers for at least a year to develop a new range of larger touch-screen devices, said the people. The move is interesting in light of the fact that Apple's iPad sales have been on the decline for two straight quarters. Though sales are still impressive overall, the growth Apple enjoys with the iPhone seems to have dissipated with the iPad. Now this isn't to say the iPad is a dud, but rather, may simply be a reflection of the fact that upgrade cycles are, on average, slower for tablets than they are for smartphones. Further, with iPads being unsubsidized, the ability to upgrade iPads on a consistent basis my very well be outside of most people's budgets. To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More

20 years ago, AT&T ad campaign 'predicted' technology that was well on its way
A YouTube compilation of a 20-year-old AT&T ad campaign dubbed “You Will” is getting pass-along traffic today (and not for the first time). It’s a fun look at the company’s predictions for a range of technologies that would become the likes of GPS, online books and electronic toll collection.Don’t get me wrong: I’m not saying that anyone could have seen these things coming back in 1994. It’s remarkable that these innovations would become not only real but commonplace so soon after this ad campaign aired. That they would become a reality at all? That’s less remarkable, because many were already well on their way.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More
