Last Saturday, June 13, Facebook began a new program that allows users to have "vanity" URLs for their Facebook profiles instead of the user-friendly-as-a-cornered-rat URLs that were previously the only option. I am always interested in claims of electrosensitivity, which is defined as a negative effect on human health (or at least well-being) from electromagnetic fields. While I've yet to read a definitive study correlating a negative health impact of any form in humans from a consumer-grade electromagnetic field, again, of any form, I'm also always up for a little field work. I'm constantly amazed by the brazenness of certain large companies and governments when it comes to abuse of privacy. The most egregious recent example: The Chinese government announced that starting July 1, it will require the installation of rootkit software on all PCs sold in China — ostensibly to prevent its citizens from visiting "objectionable" sites on the Web.
