Network World's Cisco News Alert, 10/24/07

Cisco buys into WiMAX with $330M purchase of Navini, 10/23/07: The rumors were right: Cisco has signed a deal to buy WiMAX radio vendor Navini Networks for $330 million.

Cisco fights fakes via used-equipment remarketing, 10/22/07: Due to its dominance and ubiquity, Cisco is victimized by counterfeit equipment more than any other network products vendor.

Why WAN optimization should be integrated with branch office routers, Part 1, 10/23/07: In a recent paper posted at Webtorials, Cisco advocated the integration of WAN optimization features into the router. This brings into focus once again the perennial question of exactly how many features should be incorporated into a single piece of equipment. In fact, longtime readers of this column will remember that about 10 years ago we were discussing whether the DSU/CSU should be integrated with the router.
