SCO says it's down but not out in Linux case - LinuxWorld, 08/13/07: The SCO Group acknowledged being dealt a significant blow Friday in its lawsuit against Novell, but it indicated that it may not be done fighting yet. In a short statement posted to its Web site over the weekend, SCO said it was "obviously disappointed" with Friday's district court ruling, but it noted that parts of the case are not yet resolved and hinted that it might file an appeal.

"Although the district judge ruled in Novell's favor on important issues, the case has not yet been fully vetted by the legal system and we will continue to explore our options with respect to how we move forward from here," the company said.

But at least one insider says that changes to Open XML to which Microsoft has already agreed could help the technology win approval in a new vote in September 2008. In an internal vote of the Washington-based International Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) that concluded Thursday, Open XML did not gain sufficient support within the executive board of the organization.

JP Rangaswami asks about knowledge management in the enterprise. "Knowledge management is not really about the content, it is about creating an environment where learning takes place. Maybe we spend too much time trying to create an environment where teaching takes place, rather than focus on the learning.

"Since people want to learn by watching others, what we need to do is to improve the toolsets and the environment that allows people to watch others. It could be as simple as: What does my boss do? Whom does she talk to? What are her surfing habits like? Whom does she treat as high priority in terms of communications received? What applications does she use? Which ones does she not use?"
