Cisco: SONA promises advanced next-generation networks, 08/14/07: Cisco is incorporating services into its network gear, software and services, company officials say, to better equip customers to handle today's and tomorrow's advanced IP applications such as voice, video and virtualization.

Oracle Database 11g available on Linux, 08/14/07: Oracle’s newest database management system is now generally available on the Linux platform.

XenSource CEO: Citrix will enhance relationship with and provide alternative to Microsoft, 08/15/07: Citrix acquired XenSource Wednesday for $500 million. With the acquisition, Citrix will also acquire the virtualization talent of XenSource, among them CEO Peter Levine. Network World Senior Editor Deni Connor caught up with Levine and talked about the acquisition and how the combination of Citrix’ and XenSource’s technologies will benefit customers going forward.

Venture-capital dollars flood into network equipment, dry up for telecom and Internet start-ups, 08/13/07: Venture-capital investments in network companies during the second quarter hovered at the same level as first-quarter investments, although the sectors in which investors were most interested played a game of musical chairs.

The state of connection brokering, 08/13/07: Centralized computing is becoming increasingly accepted as an efficient and cost-effective way of deploying desktops in the enterprise, shining a light on the key technologies that make it all possible. Virtualization, for example, allows more than one user to run a desktop session on a centralized server. Another less discussed but perhaps more important component is connection brokering.
