From Bradley Mitchell, your Guide to Computer Networking
One of my first experiences in computer networking was programming Berkeley sockets. I spent seemingly endless hours developing data transfer logic and debugging complex problems (most of which were my own making). Nowadays, many years later, it's a struggle just getting ten minutes free to explain to someone what a socket is. Fortunately, we've got a page on that.

What Is a Socket?
Sockets are the fundamental technology for programming software to communicate on TCP/IP networks. A socket provides a bidirectional communication endpoint for sending and receiving data with another socket.

Replacing a Router's Wi-Fi Antenna
Wireless routers and access points normally contain a built in Wi-Fi antenna that radiates signal equally well in all directions. These antennas are sometimes called omnidirectional. While they can make it easier to get a home network up and running, sometimes it is desirable to replace the router's built-in omnidirectional antenna with a different one. This takes hardly any time at all, once you know the right kind of antenna to get.

How to Install a Telephone Jack
Telephone jack installation is one of the most basic wiring jobs a homeowner can do. Even though wireless is taking over in many realms, the good old fashioned telephone jack isn't going away anytime soon.

Tips for Troubleshooting Slow Internet Connections
This checklist describes common causes for slow Internet connections. A poor-performing connection can be caused by broadband router configuration issues, wireless interference, or any of several other technical issues with your home network. Follow these steps to diagnose slow Internet connections.
