From Bradley Mitchell, your Guide to Computer Networking
The hotel in San Francisco we stayed at last weekend charged about $15 per day for Internet access from one device. Our group had 6 computers and a few other assorted gadgets. Paying $100 a day to keep everything connected wasn't an option - so we brought a travel router.

What Is A Travel Router?
A travel router is a category of broadband routers designed to help people connect their mobile devices. Travel routers (also sometimes called mobile routers) typically possess several characteristics that distinguish them from other broadband routers... . With the right ones, you can save a lot of money on a hotel bill.

How to Change (Clone) a MAC Address
Hotels like the one I stayed at keep track of the MAC address of each device that connects to their network. Using the MAC address cloning feature of a travel router allows it to substitute as the primary interface to your room.

What Is DataPass?
If you're roaming and don't have a cell phone contract, staying connected to the Internet is very difficult. HP has a new service called DataPass that makes things easier, at least for people who have certain kinds of laptop computers.

What Is Ad Hoc Wireless Networking?
If you don't want to mess with a router, there are other options for how to network your own computers on the go. One of these is so-called "ad hoc" networking, a special configuration of Wi-Fi that isn't recommended for general purpose use but is a valuable tool in certain situations.
