From Bradley Mitchell, your Guide to Computer Networking
Thankfully, this year's Consumer Electronics Show is over. We can now take some time to recover from gadget overload and sort out the real products from the hype. One piece of gear featured at CES this year was the Netgear N300, a hybrid router that supports both Wi-Fi and powerline home networking. Does anyone out there really use powerline (for something other than electricity)?

500 Mbps in Your Walls
To use one of these newfangled Netgear routers in the powerline mode, you'll need a compatible adapter like this one. If all works as designed, you could be enjoying 500 Mbps connectivity inside your house. The question is: 500 Mbps of... what? (Note: Some people also call this PLC technology.)

BPL - Broadband Over Power Line
BPL is different from powerline. Basically, BPL gets broadband from the neighborhood to your home, while powerline takes it from there and distributes broadband inside the home. You are a rare individual if your house uses both powerline and BPL.
