From Bradley Mitchell, your Guide to Computer Networking
Friends of mine ask me a lot of questions about routers. Acquaintances who don't know that I work on About.com almost always discover this when searching online for information about routers. Probably you all have had similar experiences where some kind of technology (not necessarily) routers has brought you connections not just to the Internet but also to people.

Default Passwords for Linksys Routers
When setting up a home home network router, you will be prompted to log into the router as the administrator. The default administrator login information (user name and password) is set on the router at the factory. It is not required you change these settings, but its recommended to do so as one step towards protecting your network security.

How Can I Get 300 Mbps Speed on My 802.11n Network?
802.11n networks support approximately 300 Mbps of rated (theoretical) bandwidth under the best conditions. Unfortunately, an 802.11n network will sometimes operate at much lower speeds (i.e., 130 Mbps and below). Why is that?

Why You Share (or Steal) a Neighbor's Wi-Fi
We've had a few surprising responses so far on our page about sharing Wi-Fi rout.. err I mean networks with neighbors. With just a few clicks you can post your own reasons why you may be doing this (no membership required).

DISCUSS: The RPC Server is Unavailable
Those of you who use Windows XP computers may occasionally see this cryptic error message when trying to communicate through your router over a network. "The RPC server is unavailable" can pop up when, for example, trying to release and renew an IP address via ipconfig. Have you ever encountered this error? How did you fix it?
