28% taking smartphones and laptops to bed for work: survey
More than a quarter of 329 London workers surveyed admit they routinely take their laptop or other mobile computing device to bed to do work. The same survey indicated that 57% of bedmates found it "a very annoying habit." 

Palm Pre available June 6, says Sprint
After months of anticipation, Sprint said Tuesday that the Palm Pre smartphone will be available for purchase on June 6. Following in the footsteps of the Apple iPhone and the BlackBerry Storm, the Palm Pre will be sold for $200 provided customers sign a two-year service agreement with Sprint and mail in a $100 rebate. 

Microsoft confirms serious IIS bug, downplays threat
Microsoft late Monday confirmed that its Internet Information Services (IIS) Web-server software contains a vulnerability that could let attackers steal data, but downplayed the threat.

Microsoft, HP to invest $180M in joint unified communications products
Microsoft and HP have beefed up their partnership to develop and sell a common platform for unified communications. The companies plan to spend $180 million over the next four years on product development and joint marketing. The work will center on HP's ProCurve networking products and Microsoft's Office Communications Server, Office SharePoint Server and Exchange products. 

Grid will be Internet x 1000, Cisco says
Anyone wondering why Cisco is targeting smart grid utility network buildouts -- aside from the $20 billion opportunity -- might want to read a dispatch from the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal. According to Cisco, smart grid could be up to 1,000 times the size of the Internet due to the simple fact that every home has electricity but not every home has Internet access. 

Twitter dismisses Google ad model
Twitter co-founder Biz Stone told Reuters he has no plans to monetize the micro-blogging service via advertising, and instead is set to roll out new tools and services for businesses as way to bolster Twitter's revenues. So much for some kind of Google partnership or ad deal. 

Nimsoft acquires the assets of Cittio
Nimsoft announced Monday it had acquired for an undisclosed sum the intellectual property assets of Cittio, a maker of automated network and systems management software.
