Cisco, San Fran team on green
Cisco and the City of San Francisco this week unveiled Urban EcoMap, an Internet-based tool that enables cities to provide climate change information for their citizens. Urban EcoMap is designed to provide collective results of individual climate change actions and encourage "responsible" environmental choices, while creating competition among neighborhoods to reduce their carbon footprint, Cisco says.

3Com's high-end switch: A fast, green alternative to Cisco 3Com says it has an alternative for network managers considering high-end switches from Cisco and others.

IBM/Brocade a non-issue for Cisco? The rumored union between IBM and Brocade will fail to dent Cisco's market share, according to a blog post by David Gross, chief analyst and founder of Freesky Research. The reason is that big users still by direct from manufactuers instead of through OEMs or other distributors, Gross notes.

Signs of stabilization from Cisco channel, Juniper guidance Close We may have hit bottom. Those are the signs coming from Cisco's channel and Juniper's Q2 guidance. Customer spending and vendor revenue are showing signs of stabilization, according to updates from the Cisco channel provided to Oppenheimer & Co. analysts. In an April canvassing of 33 Cisco channel partners in the US and Europe, Oppenheimer found that 60% expect sales to grow next quarter, according to a bulletin released by the firm this week.

Juniper reports soft Q1; Cisco next On the heels of Juniper's less-than-stellar third-quarter earnings, analysts are expecting Cisco to post a 17% decline in revenue for its April quarter.

Cloud computing a 'security nightmare,' says Cisco CEO If anyone has the right to be excited about cloud computing, it's John Chambers. But on Wednesday Cisco Systems' Chairman and CEO conceded that the computing industry's move to sell pay-as-you-go computing cycles available as a service on the Internet was also "a security nightmare."
