Future-Net/MPLScon archives available for download

By Steve Taylor and Jim Metzler

Over the past few years, it has become obvious that one of the toughest tasks is getting trained on new technologies. With slashed training budgets, most companies simply didn’t have the resources to send their staffs to conferences and formal training classes. We can’t see that this situation has gotten any better and if anything, it has gotten worse. As a partial solution to this problem, Webtorials has continued to partner with Future-Net, the outgrowth of MPLScon, to make available for you essentially the entire program.

The biggest change in the evolution from MPLScon to Future-Net is represented in the conference’s tagline, “MPLS, VPLS, and beyond.” And this is reflected in the expanded set of training materials. While just having access to the handouts falls short of the total conference experience, this is a fabulous resource in terms of offering almost forty sessions, including half-day tutorials by the MFA Forum.

We see these full-length tutorials from the MFA Forum as being an especially valuable resource, with sessions on an “Introduction to L2/L3 VPNS,” an “Overview of MPLS/VPN Security,” “Next Generation Ethernet Transport,” and “Multicast in MPLS Networks.”

The remainder of the sessions represent a “who’s who” of individuals and companies in the MPLS (and beyond) arena. Among the focus areas for the other tracks are “MPLS: Present & Future,” “The Great Ethernet Debate,” “New Service Opportunities: Fixed Mobile Convergence Triple and Quadruple Play,” and “Security, Encryption and Privacy.” Many of the presentations are technically oriented with quite detailed explanations.

By the way, if these presentations are of interest to you, then you’re also an excellent candidate to provide input to the study we mentioned in our last newsletter. This study by Kubernan is defining the components and relative importance of factors in the MPLS Total Customer Experience, as described in the last newsletter. To access the survey and receive an early copy of the results, please see the questionnaire here.
