Editor's Note: All VoIP, All The Time

If there were any doubt that VoIP is the Next Big Thing, this week should have laid them to rest. For a start, Frost & Sullivan released a report saying that the consumer VoIP market revenues will reach $4.07 billion in 2010, up more than 1300% over $295.1 million last year. That growth will come largely from non-traditional telecommunications companies, including cable operators, Internet service provider (ISP), and non-telecom companies.

Another survey later in the week came to a similar conclusion, but from a different angle. The National Consumers League found that 46% percent of people who have heard of VoIP would likely switch to the technology from traditional land lines.

There was other VoIP news as well. On the consumer end of things, Vonage began offering a cordless VoIP handset , while at the enterprise end, a report by InfoTech found that U.S. enterprise purchases of hosted IP telephony could grow from $310 million in 2005 to $5.9 billion in 2010.

All this means, of course, that VoIP is in your future. So check Networking Pipeline every week; we'll always have the latest for you.
