If one of my readers has his way, collaborative network platforms such as Cisco WebEx will mix with mobile operators' wireless networks to provide, in effect, an IT-rich, high-end mobile Centrex service. Think about it. A platform like WebEx supports cloud-based telephony, video and application services across a 150-country network of data centers. Wireless Electricity Specification Nearing Completion
The Wireless Power Consortium have announced that they are nearing completion for a new industry standard in supplying electricity wirelessly. Palm introduced their very own Touchstone to charge the Palm Pre through inductive charging, and even a wireless power solution for the iPhone has been produced, adding to the excitement about the generally 'futuristic' premise of wireless power. But this new annoucement from the WPC opts to provide an open standard for a wide range of devices to utilize, rather than have companies develop their own closed formats. The new format will go under the name of "Qi", which is pronounced "Chi" and represents "vital energy" in Chinese. Not quite as catchy as 'Wi-Fi', but give it time.

Qwest Wireless customers have two months to switch to Verizon
Qwest Wireless customers were told Tuesday that they have two months to switch their service to Verizon before their own service ends. The switch from legacy Qwest Wireless services to Verizon has been in the works since last year when the company signed a five-year deal to make Verizon its official wireless carrier. That agreement gave Qwest's broadband, video and voice customers access to Verizon Wireless handsets, smartphones and BlackBerry devices. Additionally, Qwest customers are able to use Verizon's wireless broadband services for their e-mail and Internet access.

EU invests in LTE to reclaim mobile technology lead
The European Commission has decided that the European Union will invest €18 million (US$25 million) into research that will underpin next-generation 4G mobile networks based on LTE Advanced, it said on Tuesday.
