Nortel agreed to sell its Enterprise Solutions group to Avaya for $475 million, barring any better offers from other potential bidders under the "stalking horse" arrangement. Nortel's enterprise chief Joel Hackney shared a few thoughts about the deal and its implications.

So Avaya did the expected and made an offer for Nortel's enterprise business. But the "stalking horse" arrangement really initiates an auction for the Nortel asset, with a starting bid of $475 million. Should Cisco offer a bid? Or should it wait and welcome refugee customers with open arms?

As expected, Nortel has entered into a "stalking horse" asset and share sale agreement with Avaya for its Enterprise Solutions business.
