Backspin: The Tao of IT: Lesson 1,266 A few weeks ago we discussed the Tao of IT and our first lesson was about distinguishing between what is wanted and what is needed, and how these issues are often confused. We suggested that you let go of ownership (for example, stop being “server huggers”), think about what infrastructure you really need, and look to hosting and software-as-a-service as the way to optimize costs and flexibility. I called T-Mobile to do a warranty exchange and got the usual CSR: Someone who is barely understandable, is over-familiar (which is annoying not because I want to be called "Mr. Gibbs" but rather because they use you first name so much it is simply irritating), and downright smarmy. How Have You Been Sleeping... ? Need something to keep you up at night -- something more to worry about? Here's a doozy: The U.S. House of Representative's Committee on Homeland Security called this week for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to further investigate the cause of excessive network traffic that shut down an Alabama nuclear plant. Amero Sentencing Delayed Yet Again! Julie Amero, the substitute teacher who was found "guilty" of exposing eighth graders to porn on a PC, has had her sentencing postponed yet again! The poor woman has now had sentencing postponed four times and will now have to wait until June 6th! This is insane. Greetings. Irregular Voice 1, Miles Baska here.
