By Jeff Caruso

Money router needed

As one observer has put it, when they built the Internet, they
forgot the protocols that route the money. Carriers have been
struggling with the best way to make money at it ever since. Tom
Nolle this week says the Internet is about to be remade - but
the shape that it takes will depend on who can best bring
together the worlds of moneymaking and innovation.

Vexed by Vonage

Mark Gibbs this week delivers a double whammy against Vonage. In
his Gearhead column, Gibbs describes his "love-hate
relationship" with voice-over-IP provider Vonage, and in
Backspin, he wonders aloud how the average, non-technical person
would deal with the issues he has found.

"More like Charmin vs. Cheerios"

So much has been made in the press about Google and its threat
to Microsoft. But Dave Kearns argues that no such threat exists.

Service providers aren't what they used to be

Take recent moves by eBay, Google and AOL, and what you have is
a new type of service provider emerging. Johna Till Johnson
takes a closer look.
