trail with electronic-voting machines ran into opposition
Tuesday from two powerful members of a Senate committee, with
one senator objecting that a printout would discriminate against

Europe's harmonized patent rules take a step forward, 06/21/05
The European Parliament's legal affairs committee has voted in
favor of proposed legislation to harmonize the rules for
awarding patents across the 25-member European bloc, a result
seen by some as favorable to big IT vendors.

Tech Update: SLRRP spurs large-scale RFID rollouts, 06/20/05
Radio frequency identification readers were originally operated
as peripherals typically connected to a host computer via a
serial port to support a dedicated application. This works OK
for deployments involving modest numbers of readers performing a
specific targeted business function, but to accommodate
large-scale RFID production environments, readers are evolving
to support TCP/IP stacks connected via wired or wireless
networks.

Sanyo quietly joins Blu-ray Disc group, 06/16/05
Sanyo Electric has joined the Blu-ray Disc Association, the
standards-setting group behind the Blu-ray Disc optical disc
format, but says its membership hasn't changed the company's
plan to produce disc players based on the rival HD-DVD format.
