Should EMC sell off 80% stake in VMware?
Breaking up is hard to do, but could a split be in store soon for EMC and VMware?Talk has intensified in the past week that changes could be afoot in the strategic relationship between the two tech companies. EMC currently owns 80% share of VMware, but a new activist investor is asking for that to change.Investment firm Elliott Management bought up about $1 billion worth of EMC shares to gain about a 2% hold of the company. IRS now not sure if backup emails exist, but claims more hard drives crashed
The “lost” emails of Lois Lerner, former Director of the Exempt Organizations Division at the IRS, has been an ongoing drama, with some people debating whether it is a huge conspiracy or the IRS has the worst IT department ever. So far in the congressional investigation into the IRS allegedly targeting Tea Party and conservative groups who applied for tax-exempt status from 2010 to 2012, not only are Lerner’s emails “lost” after her hard drive crashed, and the IRS still doesn’t know if backups of those emails exist, but now more IRS officials experienced computer crashes.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More

IEEE forms 25G Ethernet study group
On the heels of the formation of a vendor consortium to promote the need, the IEEE this week said it will explore standardization of 25Gbps Ethernet.The standards organization has formed an 802.3 25G Ethernet study group to consider market opportunities and requirements for a single-lane 25G Ethernet speed for server interconnects. Tor Project working to fix weakness that can unmask users

'Nadella Effect' makes Ballmer $2.8B richer
Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer's "devices and services" strategy may be in tatters, discarded by his successor, Satya Nadella, but Ballmer must be smiling all the way to the bank.According to U.S. Securities and Exchange (SEC) documents, Ballmer owns more than 333 million shares in Microsoft. At Monday's closing price of $44.83, those shares were valued at $14.9 billion.On the day before Ballmer stepped aside, Microsoft's share price was $36.48, putting his portfolio's worth at just over $12.1 billion.
