Facebook and six other tech companies have launched a joint project called Internet.org which aims to connect the two-thirds of the global population that is not currently linked to the Internet.

Birst, a San Francisco company that offers cloud-based business intelligence services, has scored a $38 million venture investment led by existing backer Sequoia Capital and including newcomer Northgate Capital.
