Many organizations around the world observed a World IPv6 Day last week which included live testing of the protocol on some large scale Web sites and networks. Did you notice any glitches or any IPv6 surprises on the 8th?

What Is IPv6?
Odds are you didn't even notice the special event was happening, as IPv6 is a protocol that's been groomed for a long time take over the Internet someday soon.

Cisco: Internet Traffic To Multiply by 4x in Five Years
The primary reason IPv6 is necessary on the Internet is the amazing growth happening every day with no end in sight. According to Cisco's estimates, both the number of new devices going online and the amount of network traffic being generated around the world are going to continue increasing fast.

Is Your Garage Door Opener Online?
And the Internet will never again be the same if everyone's garage door gets its own IPv6 address and joins the Web someday. Sounds silly perhaps, but companies like LiftMaster have some interesting home automation ideas. Now if someone could just come up with a way to find missing socks, we are set.
