From Bradley Mitchell, your Guide to Computer Networking
In the aftermath of New Zealand's severe earthquake last month, some businesses in Christchurch utilizing cloud computing are reporting success in retrieving backed up data and restoring their operations. Cloud computing technology can help both families and businesses better protect themselves against natural disasters, if they are using the cloud as an offsite location to store backup copies of data.

What Is Cloud Computing?
Cloud computing consists of hardware and software resources made available on the Internet as managed third-party services. These services typically provide access to advanced software applications and high-end networks of server computers.

Home Network Backups
A home network backup system maintains copies of your personal electronic data files in case of computer failures, theft or disasters. You can manage your own home network backups or choose to use an online service. Remote backups can be especially helpful in the event of natural disasters. Of course, saving our data ranks much lower in priority than protecting human life and the environment, but making careful plans for data backups is still a very good idea.

Home Automation for Senior Citizens
Senior citizens and individuals with mobility concerns can greatly benefit from the convenience afforded by automation. Home automation products can also be useful in assisted living facilities and hospitals anywhere, because they can allow tasks to be accomplished remotely.

Common Home Networking Problems (and How to Solve Them)
Computer networks bring many good things into the home: more convenient Internet access, sharing of files and printers, additional home entertainment options, and so on. Yet home network technology also poses some interesting challenges.
