From Bradley Mitchell, Your Guide to Computer Networking.
Congratulations to the city of New Orleans for their team's victory in this year's Super Bowl. It was only four ago years we were talking about the use of emergency Wi-Fi hotspots around New Orleans as a communication tool in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Now the city is gearing up for both a Super Bowl parade and Mardi Gras that is sure to keep the local wireless networks abuzz with calls, pictures and video.

Do Not Auto-Connect to Open Wi-Fi Networks
Emergency hotspots aside, connecting to an open Wi-Fi network such as a free wireless hotspot exposes your computer to security risks. Although not normally enabled, most computers have a setting available allowing these connections to happen automatically without notifying you (the user). This setting should not be enabled except in temporary situations with your (the user's) awareness.

Bandwidth Requirements for the Super Bowl
How much network bandwidth does it take to transmit high definition video of a world famous event? If you said 1.5 Gbps, you correctly pegged the size of the feed Level 3 Communications provisioned for Super Bowl 44.

What Is An IP Address Conflict?
An IP address conflict occurs when two computers on a local network (or the Internet) have been assigned the same IP address. IP conflicts between two computers normally render either one or both of them unusable for network operations.

Do You Use Two Routers on Your Home Network?
Using two routers on a home network can be a good idea for a few reasons including - increased security, improved performance, expanded compatibility with wireless gadgets, or simply as a fall back in case the other one fails. Many of our readers have already posted interesting examples of how to utilize two (or even three!) routers in their homes. What's your story?
