Cisco blows away Q1 expectations Even the bullish forecasts for Cisco's Q1 fell far short. Cisco this week posted first quarter results that far exceeded Wall Street, and its own, expectations. AT&T, Verizon others boost 4G networks AT&T and Verizon, along with several other telecom companies and device manufacturers, have joined forces to help develop voice and SMS standards for the 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard. FCC seeks public's help with E-Rate Internet services program The Federal Communications Commission this week asked for public comments on how to improve E-Rate, the federal program designed to give U.S. schools and libraries access to affordable telecom and Internet services. Cisco, EMC roll out joint venture The joint venture everyone's been waiting for for the past couple of months has finally arrived. Cisco and EMC have formed a joint venture to "accelerate" the products it develops under it new Virtual Computing Environment coalition with VMware.
