Network equipment vendors are getting a little buzzword-crazy when it comes to one of the biggest buzzwords today - "cloud computing" - and suddenly all of their switches and routers have "cloud" capabilities. Give me a break.

Is cloud computing the answer?
In recent newsletters we began to address the challenge of fitting the various vendor offerings (e.g., LAN switches, WAN services, virtualized servers, virtualized desktops, SOA based applications, unified communications, etc.) together into a synergistic system. In this newsletter we will begin to look at whether or not cloud computing is the answer to that challenge.

Amazon S3 lets customers ship big data
Amazon's S3 cloud storage service has a new option, called AWS Import/Export, for quickly uploading large amounts of information to its data centers. It uses a well-developed, multimodal content delivery network that can transmit terabytes of data faster than a T-3 leased line.
