BroadSoft gobbles up Slyantro to become the leader in stand-alone VoIP application servers Just before the close of 2008, BroadSoft announced it had acquired Sylantro Systems, its next-strongest competitor offering VoIP and multimedia application. The move makes BroadSoft the undisputed market leader supplying stand-alone VoIP application servers. Financial terms were not disclosed. The Sylantro acquisition follows BroadSoft's acquisition of Genband's M6 platform earlier in 2008. BroadSoft, Microsoft announce hosted UC service; Microsoft unveils OCS 2007 R2 It has been a busy month so far in the convergence market with BroadSoft and Microsoft announcing the general availability of a BroadSoft hosted UC service based on Microsoft software. There was also the debut of Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Release 2, Nortel's launch of BCM450 IP PBX targeted at midsize businesses, Sylantro's release of hosted voice applications on Amazon's EC2 Cloud, and the decision by the IMS Forum and the NGN Forum to merge. Following on the heels of its Mobile Forecast for 2008-2012, Cisco announced mobility product enhancements. And Ericsson announced software upgrades to existing products and introduced a new Converged Packet Gateway (CPG). Vendors see future in iPhone business applications The iPhone may generally be considered a consumer device, but several vendors at the Cebit trade show this week are demonstrating applications and services to put the device more firmly in the business arena. Move over e-mail, here come 'Pixetells' A Portland, Oregon, startup called Ontier is set on Monday to unveil Pixetell, communication software that combines text, video, images and audio in a single message.
