More from Cisco Subnet: IETF considers new Cisco-proposed Internet routing technique Guerrilla marketing targets Cisco Cisco rival Juniper facing enterprise challenges in Q1 From our bloggers: Brad Reese on Cisco: Lookout Death Row Records, here comes a new hit, the Cisco NetFlow Rap song Mix Master Mitch Wilson - a sales engineer for network performance measuring vendor Plixer International, has written and performed a hilariously funny hip-hop rap masterpiece, the Cisco NetFlow Rap. Jamey Heary: Cisco Security Expert: Check out Cisco’s Free Weekly Risk Report On a weekly basis Cisco’s Intellishield group will post a free overview of what’s happening in the security world. The reports provide a high level overview of what’s happening in these areas: *Vulnerability *Physical *Legal *Trust *Identity *Human *Geopolitical *Miscellaneous *Upcoming Security Activity I find the geopolitical information very interesting, mostly because it is hard to find it elsewhere. Michael Morris: From the Field: Cisco Advanced Services Education and the Awesome Technical Knowledge Library My fellow CiscoSubnet blogger Scott Hogg wrote a good blog the other day about free IT training in a down economy. With these difficult economic times, employers are cutting back or downright eliminating paid training courses. But, keeping your skill set up to par and learning new technology does not take a break during the recession. While I'm not going to provide free training tips, I do have a new training solution that could save a lot of dollars (hint: managers like that). Dennis Hartmann on Cisco Unified Communications: Emergency Call Routing - E911 and Cisco Emergency Responder Emergency call routing is commonly referred to as 911 in the United States because of our use of the 911 pattern to route emergency calls to the local emergency services call center. The emergency services call center is commonly referred to as the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). Agents at the PSAP take emergency phone calls and dispatch an Emergency Response Team (ERT). First responders (ERT) include members of the fire department, police department, and/or ambulance depending on the emergency situation. Scott Hogg: Core Networking and Security: Routers versus Switches for Enterprise Internet Routing Just this last week several customers have ironically all asked me the exact same question. “Can we use an Ethernet switch instead of a router for our Internet EBGP peering to our ISP(s)?” While switches have gained more routing capabilities in recent years there are some caveats you should be aware of when making this decision. Jimmy Ray Purser: Networking Geek to Geek: Hidden Commands Whether I am programming an EEPROM, JTAG'ing a device or restoring old pinball machines and arcades, I love to jump into maintenance/diagnostic mode so I can get a feel for what the code jockeys were trying to accomplish. In arcade machines they have an attract mode feature that makes different sounds and screen shots to entice you to pump-n-dump your quarters into the coin box. However, if you pull the EEPROM off the board you can find all kinds of stuff, like other games and hidden commands to totally change the behavior of the device. Cisco Knowledge Share with Avner Izhar: Is my network healthy? Miscellaneous tools The last post in this series is touching some of the other tools you can make use of when assessing a network. Not trying to cover it all, but to point some more useful utilities and commands. Hot discussions among Cisco Subnet readers: Uh Oh, Exploit code targeting major Intel chip flaw to be posted 3/19/09 Is theft a family tradition of U.S. CIO Vivek Kundra?
