Brad Reese on Cisco: The long and bumpy road to the Brocade/Foundry merger
The most successful rock and roll instrumentalist of all time - Duane Eddy, had a 1959 top ten hit song titled - Forty Miles Of Bad Road (a genuine personal favorite of mine which peaked at #9), and today it could very well be the "theme song" for the long and rough road to the finish line that has become "di rigeur" for the Brocade - Foundry merger.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), with funding from DARPA, has successfully tested a multi-node, 1.25Gbps active network that uses Quantum Encryption. Quantum Encryption, formally known as Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), is considered the first truly unbreakable and tap proof encryption technology on the planet. Sure AES 256 in practice is unbreakable today, but it remains mathematically crackable and it certainly can be tapped.

Wendell Odom's Cisco Cert Zone: Fun with OSPF Type 5 LSAs
Well, at least one of you asked... and I did promise! Next we'll move on to Type 5 (external) LSAs. (yeeha!) But if you didn't yet vote for your top requests from Santa for this year, at least relative to Cisco certs, pop back to Tuesday's post to weigh in.   This topic will take me a few posts, so let's jump right in.

Dennis Hartmann on Cisco Unified Communications: Clustering over the WAN
A CUCM cluster consists of one publisher server with a read/write (R/W) copy of the database. CUCM 5.0 and later uses an IBM Informix database server. The publisher database is then replicated to the subscriber servers as read/only (R/O). CUCM 6.0 added user facing features (UFF) which allows the subscriber R/O database to have limited write functionality for the following critical features to function while the publisher server is down ...
