The Snap Server 700i features as much as 36TB of storage capacity and uses either Serial-Attached SCSI or Serial ATA drives. It is designed for midsize businesses and works in Linux, VMware or Windows environments. Additionally the Snap Server 700i can be synchronously mirrored to another 700i and provide multipathing support for attached Windows servers.
The Snap Server 700i comes in three rack-mountable models, each in a 1U enclosure. The Snap Server 720i offers 1TB to 2TB of capacity and uses Serial ATA drives. The Snap Server 730i provides 3TB of capacity and uses Serial ATA drives. The Snap Server 750i provides 1.2TB and uses 15,000 RPM Serial Attached SCSI drives. Additional capacity can be obtained by using as many as eight Adaptec SANbloc S50 expansion chassis, which houses as many as 12 hot-swappable Serial ATA or Serial-Attached SCSI drives. According to Adaptec, the 700i is ideal for hosting Microsoft Exchange or SQL Server applications. Those applications would be best deployed on a synchronously mirrored pair of 700i arrays. The software included with the 700i uses Microsoft Virtual Shadow Copy Service snapshots to back up the data without involving the application servers. The 700i uses the OnTarget OS, which is based on Linux and supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. It also features redundant hot-swappable power supplies and fans. The Snap Server 700i family starts at $8,000.
