From Bradley Mitchell, your Guide to Computer Networking
Few things are more frustrating than coping with unexpected network outages. This month alone I've had to deal with broken Internet access on multiple days and somewhat less than stellar service from the provider. Of course, few things are easier than being an armchair network administrator.

Finding and Fixing Internet Connection Problems
When you suddenly can't connect to the Internet, any of several things could be wrong. Use this checklist to find and solve common Internet connection problems. Last Friday, I made it all the way to step #10 and waited the whole day to see if my provider would bother to notify me about it.

What Is Tethering?
My iPhone was the only device in our house with Internet access for most of this past weekend. With the iPhone's tethering capability, it's possible to get various other gadgets in the home back online when the primary Internet service goes down.

Tips for Troubleshooting Slow Internet Connections
The week before, our house was suffering from a different problem. The Internet connection didn't fail completely but was running very sluggishly. This can be caused by broadband router configuration issues, wireless interference, or any of several other technical issues with your home network. What was the problem? Hint: Once again, see the last step.

Using Computer Networks to Play Games
One of the most enjoyable things you can do with a computer network is play connected games with friends and family. To play networked games, you may need to upgrade your setup, and you should also be prepared to troubleshoot technical issues. Such as a broken Internet connection.
