Lightweight, comfy, and unobtrusive: that's how I would describe the fit of the Motorola H790. The attractively-priced $80 (MSRP as of 8/6/09) bluetooth headset sports an over-the-ear plastic loop. This clear plastic loops lacks flexibility to curve around the ear, so it remains in its fixed loopy shape. Admittedly, the loop looks chintzy, but to my surprise, it gripped my (small) ear just fine. Linksys by Cisco Conductor Music Streamer
The $700 (as of 8/27/09) Linksys by Cisco Conductor (DMC350) is the flagship product in Cisco's awkwardly branded suite of networked audio devices. But if you expect the Conductor to use your Wi-Fi network to control and deliver radio-quality audio streams throughout your home, you could well find the device disappointing--as I did in my tests. I had high hopes for Belkin's new Gigabit Powerline HD Starter Kit. Having recently reviewed Belkin's Powerline AV+ Starter Kit, which performed well and had great features, I was expecting to find more of the same, plus faster performance in the Gigabit product. However, the results made me wish that Belkin had forgone the use of the word Gigabit. Toshiba Satellite L555-S7916 Laptop PC
If you're looking for an inexpensive laptop with a large screen to park in the kitchen or use as a home-office PC, Toshiba's Satellite L555-S7916 is worth a look. The expansive keyboard, which includes a dedicated numeric keypad, raises the comfort level for word processing, Web site navigation, and spreadsheet editing chores--and that's about it. But you'd be hard pressed to find a desktop-replacement-size all-purpose laptop for less than the $699 asking price (as of August 28, 2009) of our test unit--aside from the odd fire sale at Walmart. Microsoft Subnet is giving away training from New Horizons and 15 copies of Windows Server 2008 How-To. Cisco Subnet is giving away 15 copies of Interconnecting Data Centers Using VPLS.
