Avaya close to going private, reports say, 06/04/07:  Avaya is close to going private in a buyout deal with Silver Lake Partners and the Texas Pacific Group for $8 billion, according to news reports.

Investment firm attracted by Palm's software expertise, 06/04/07:  One of the main attractions of Palm's business was its software expertise, according to private-equity firm Elevation Partners, which plans to acquire about 25% of the struggling mobile device maker.

Google buys FeedBurner to boost RSS services, 06/01/07:  Google has acquired FeedBurner, a provider of publishing and advertising services for blogs and content syndication feed.

Siemens scandal touches T-Systems too, 05/31/07:  The bribery scandals at Siemens have forced the resignation of a former senior executive who left the company nearly two years ago to head the IT services subsidiary of German telecommunications operator Deutsche Telekom.

Dell to lay off 10% of employees, 05/31/07:  Dell will lay off 10% of its 78,800 workers, in a continuing effort to improve profits as the company also completes an investigation of accounting fraud, it said Thursday.

Brocade to pay $7M to settle with SEC, 05/31/07:  Brocade has agreed to pay a $7 million penalty to settle charges of stock-option backdating fraud.

Google digs in against malware with acquisition, 05/30/07:  Google's acquisition of security company GreenBorder Technologies is a sign the search giant wants to bolster confidence in its browser-delivered applications amid growing threats from malicious software on the Internet.

IBM lays off 1,500, mostly in services, 05/30/07:  IBM Wednesday laid off 1,573 employees, as part of a continuing overhaul of its services unit, the company said.

Novell says Microsoft deal is good for Linux business, 05/30/07:  Novell Wednesday said its deal with Microsoft is helping drive gains in its Linux business, but danced around questions concerning how that deal may be altered given coming changes in open source licensing.

Motorola lays off 4,000 in search for missing profit, 05/30/07:  In an extension of a cost-cutting program it began in January, Motorola said Wednesday it would lay off 4,000 more workers.

After ten years, Yahoo CTO calls it quits, 05/30/07:  Yahoo's CTO Farzad Nazem is stepping down.
