NETFLASH: BREAKING NEWS FROM NETWORKWORLD.COM
By Jeff Caruso
General DataComm was big a decade ago, in the Before Time, the
time when ATM was going to live forever and save us all. Well,
things didn't pan out for ATM, and they didn't pan out for GDC,
either. But believe it or not, four years after declaring
bankruptcy, GDC is still hanging on - and gearing up for what
would be the biggest comeback in networking history.

DOD looks to put pizzazz back in PKI
Since the U.S. Department of Defense got its PKI certificate
management system from Netscape eight years ago, it has issued
millions of certificates. But it has also revoked millions of
certificates - and that is creating a scalability nightmare, as
the entire list of revoked certificates has to be downloaded
every day to every PKI user's desktop. Fotunately, the DOD has
hit upon a solution.

networking projects, kicking off an initiative with hardware,
software and networking partners to help communities around the
world to carry out the sometimes controversial rollouts.

acquire CyberGuard for approximately $295 million in a cash and
