Box fixes flaw in Mac desktop Sync app
Online file storage and sharing service Box has patched the Mac version of its desktop app after a developer found it exposed potentially sensitive bits of data, including API keys, internal user IDs, URLs and passwords.Mac users should ensure they're on the updated 4.0.6035 version, wrote Pepijn Bruienne, a Mac development and operation specialist senior at the University of Michigan, who found the problem.The error was probably an unintentional one by Box, Bruienne wrote in a blog post. Dell, EMC, VMware and others get giddy over converged infrastructure
IT can be complicated, so during the past few years the idea of an easy to deploy, all-in-one compute network and storage appliance has taken hold and been dubbed converged infrastructure. What started as a niche market a few years ago has blossomed into a multi-billion dollar business with many of technology's biggest players involved.Some of those players, including EMC, Dell and VMware are making big moves this week to solidify their position in this fast-growing market. Gartner predicted last year that revenues for integrated systems would grow more than 50% between 2013 and 2014. It estimated in mid-2014 that the market would end last year with $6 billion in revenues, but other more recent estimates peg this market at being even larger. EMC's all-in-one compute appliance comes with an app store
Converged infrastructure equipment is designed for ease of use, and EMC's latest product emulates the easiest tech toys around by including an app store.You won't be able to download games or photo apps for the VSPEX Blue, but a range of applications will be offered for the integrated compute-storage-networking system, including data backup and recovery.The VSPEX Blue is based on VMware's EVO:Rail platform, a software-only appliance that VMware leaves to partner companies to implement in hardware systems. Dell, Super Micro and other vendors already sell EVO:Rail systems.
