Read More Wireless data traffic more than doubled in US in 2013 The total amount of data handled by wireless carriers in the U.S. more than doubled in 2013, an increase driven in large part by video traffic.U.S. carriers saw 3.2 exabytes of data traffic run across their networks, the CTIA said in its annual report on the U.S. wireless industry. An exabyte is 10x18 bytes or, put another way, a billion gigabytes.The figure represents a 120 percent increase from the 1.5 exabytes carried in all of 2012, the group said on Tuesday. The CTIA is the Washington, D.C, -based lobbying group that represents the industry and it conducted the survey among its members. The Online Competition and Consumer Choice Act, introduced Tuesday by Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont and Representative Doris Matsui of California, along with three other Democrats, would ban broadband providers from collecting fees from websites and online services for preferential traffic handling. The bill is an effort to get out front of a contentious debate about net neutrality rules.To read this article in full or to leave a comment, please click here Read More 5.5-inch iPhone may cost $100 more, but consumers are willing to pay With Apple largely expected to unveil two new iPhone models this fall -- one with a 4.7-inch screen and the other with a 5.5-inch screen -- an obvious question looms: just how does Apple plan on pricing these devices?Historically, Apple has remained beholden to pricing new iPhone models at a base price of $199 and charging more for more memory. With two different-sized iPhone models on the horizon, it remains to be seen how Apple handles its traditionally simple pricing matrix.Commenting on the matter, analyst Tavis McCourt of Raymond James recently opined that Apple may price the 5.5-inch iPhone model $100 higher than the 4.7-inch model.
