Waiting on Cisco's next earnings report
Everyone with an investment in the U.S. and global economy is waiting to hear what Cisco will report for its next quarterly results on Wednesday, May 6. Few think that Cisco will report stellar figures (analysts expect Cisco to post a 17% decline in revenue, and a 34% drop in earnings per share). But if it offers a hopeful outlook for the next two quarters, it could inject another boost of much-needed optimism into the economy.

Brad Reese on Cisco: New HP Networking boss took $17.2M from EMC, but sues to void his non-compete agreement The Boston Globe is reporting that new HP Networking boss David Donatelli (executive vice president of HP's Enterprise Servers, Storage and Networking) is suing his former employer EMC in California state court seeking to void his non-compete agreement.

Jimmy Ray Purser: Networking Geek to Geek: How to Keep Intrusion Detection From Sucking I have never been a fan of fishing with plastic worms. Not because it's a real worm Vs fake worm purest argument, heck I've fished with TNT before as a kid. Now that's a real hoot! It's because I have never ever caught a single thing with them. To me, they are ineffective and a waste of time/money.

Jamey Heary: Cisco Security Expert: Cisco Introduces IPS Card for the ASA 5505 Ever wondered what that blank slot in your ASA5505 is for? Well now you know, it’s for a modular IPS card. Adding full-blown IPS to the ASA5505 will substantially increase its ability to protect you. The AIP SSC-5 provides up to 75 Mbps of IPS or IDS throughput and supports both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. The 75Mbps performance with 4000 maximum connections per second should be able to accommodate just about any SOHO or branch office configuration, the sweet spot for the ASA5505.

Wendell Odom's Cisco Cert Zone: CCNP Lab – for $750 plus cables So, it's taken a few months, and a break for a topic or two, but I've made it to the last post on my Springtime CCNA/CCNP lab series. I'll suggest an option or two with a $750 budget, give some pros and cons, and give some comments on some of your suggestions as well.

Larry Chaffin: Putting Realism Into Your Network: Interop is off to a good start, my schedule is getting full I had the chance not too long ago to chat with the GM of Interop on a conference call; he told me that he was really not seeing a drop in attendance. I am not sure about that until I get there but the vendors are sure coming out for the event. I have had over 40 vendors contact me for meeting and briefings while at Interop. Before you ask me, Cisco has not contacted me at all.
