Cisco Unifed Computing System: The video Check out Cisco's unified communications platform as if you were there at the launch event. Cisco's hitchhiker's guide to Earth's atmosphere, otherwise known as a cloud As Cisco releases ever more details about its dive into the data center, here's an interesting tidbit that helps with the big picture. This is a slideshow created by Cisco's Krishna Sankar with the cute title of A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Inter-Cloud. It provides a quick overview of how Cisco views the cloud and its role in it, including ideas such as how virtualization fits in, how the cloud should handle workload migrations and workload federation. It discusses cloud computing and identity management and a long list of other technologies.

Instead of R&D, partnerships with universities Cisco's use of partnerships with schools and governmental agencies to get the R&D it needs is an unusual model for a company it's size. But it certainly is a model that others should consider. Whereas the Microsoft's and IBMs of this world spend billions developing technology, projects like this show that you don't have to do it all yourself.

Cisco against 'Buy America' provisions of the $7.2B broadband stimulus fund Reese: According to e-mail sent only hours ago by Cisco Systems to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, Cisco is against the "Buy America" provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program.
