DEMOletter | February 2, 2009 | Smart money takes a flight to quality

Chris Shipley: Smart money takes a flight to quality

It goes without saying: the economy is in a world of hurt. No one is immune. And while banks and the Big Three are getting most of the press, the consumer and business technology industries are feeling immense pain.

I see it every day. Entrepreneurs have spread what little cash they have into a tissue-paper thin runway that pushes product release dates beyond mid-year. And in consumer households, discretionary spending is paying for the indiscretions piled up on credit cards and chipped away at savings.

So, you mumble sarcastically, what a great time to throw a conference that launches new technology products, spots trends, and celebrates innovation.

I think it is a great time. In fact, I might well argue that DEMO 09 is the most important conference in the event's 19 year history.
