Convergence & VoIPThis newsletter is sponsored by Fluke NetworksNetwork World's Convergence & VoIP Newsletter, 10/22/07Nortel expands its relationship with Microsoft, DellBy Steve Taylor and Larry HettickTimed to coincide with Microsoft’s big unified communications launch last week, Nortel also made a series of announcements of its own. Nortel claimed that it would be the “first in the industry to offer customers software-based ‘native’ interoperability between its IP-PBX portfolio and [Microsoft] Office Communications Server 2007.” The features are planned for release in Q1 2008 and include: Nortel also announced it was expanding its relationship with Dell to allow the hardware vendor to offer its customers in the United States and Canada all of Nortel’s Enterprise products – including those developed under the Nortel and Microsoft Innovative Communications Alliance.
And finally, Nortel announced that LG-Nortel, the LG Electronics and Nortel joint venture has delivered the LG-Nortel IP Phone 8500 series unified communications devices. The IP Phone 8500 series has been optimized for use with Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communicator 2007. Looks to us like Nortel is serious about delivering on joint development with Microsoft, and is delivering the products and sales channels to make good on the strategy they announced earlier this year. Next time: NEC comes to the OCS party.
