NETFLASH: BREAKING NEWS FROM NETWORKWORLD.COM

By Sheryl Hodge

Microsoft has released nine software patches, though it likes to
call them security updates, including three critical fixes for
Windows and Internet Explorer. Among the updates is a patch for
bugs in two separate components of the Windows operating system
that security researchers believe could be exploited by
attackers in much the same way that the Zotob family of worms
were used two months ago.

The ABCs of SOA

Service-oriented architecture is an inescapable IT-industry
buzzphrase. It's also a sprawling, eye-glazing abstraction that

Anti-spam vendors spread their wings

These days, enterprises need to protect themselves from more
than just unwanted e-mail, and are looking to their messaging
security providers for more than just anti-spam protection. They
are now seeking functions such as instant messaging and Web
security, outbound e-mail encryption and policy enforcement, and
extra measures to fight viruses.

Today on Layer 8, where we're Yahoo for news
