Dear Vorticians,

This week, in the VORTEX Blog, I've covered the topics below. I
hope you'll read them and share your thoughts, either by using
the feedback mechanism on the site or by e-mailing me at
mailto:jgallant@vortex.net.

IPTV and a major regulatory issue comes home to my town, 07/22/05

Verizon is bringing IPTV and very high-speed Internet - via
fiber-to-the-home - to my hometown. As a member of the local
cable committee, that puts yours truly on a collision course with
advanced technology and a very sticky regulatory situation.
What's an appointed local 'official' to do?

The widening speed war in broadband, 07/20/05

Speaking of fiber-to-the-home, have you been keeping current with
the widening speed war in broadband Internet access? Are you
getting the best offering in your home office or business? Take a
look at what the DSL and cable providers are up to and read a
great interview with Broadband Reports' Dave Burstein on what the
future holds.

Readers - wise and unwise - respond on Bernie's fate and Dell's
future, 07/19/05

What did readers think about Bernie Ebbers' sentence and my
thoughts on Dell's future? Wonder no longer.

Bye for now.

ABOUT VORTEX DIGEST
*********************************************************

VORTEX Digest is a weekly summary of the VORTEX Blogs written by
Executive Producer John Gallant and offers an ongoing dialogue
on matters raised at The VORTEX Conference, and within the VORTEX
Community.

VORTEX is an exclusive, invitation-only event for senior
executives that brings together all the key elements: leadership,
thought, funding, and regulatory expertise, to shape the future
of the network business and the technologies that drive it.
VORTEX shakes off the hype and helps you understand where you can
win new customers, and find new revenue in a time of dramatic and
seemingly unpredictable change.
